Who can participate in the competition?

Q: Who can participate in the competition?

A: Engineering students who are enrolled at a Danish university and are studying within the field of either electronic, mechanical or software engineering. The minimal requirement is that you should have taken a course that qualifies within one of these fields. You should sign up as a team, with a minimum of two and a maximum of four members.

Q: Do we have to solve all three of the challenges in order to join the competition?

A: No. You only need to choose one of the three challenges.

Q: How do we deliver our solution to the challenge? What format should we use?

A: There are several ways to answer the questions, e.g. a report, a slideshow, posters, small applications CAD drawings, mock-up models. You are only limited by your imagination and your ambition. The alpha and omega in this competition are your good and professionally sound ideas.

Q: I can see my team answering all three challenges. Can we do that, and will it give us a better chance of winning?

A: That depends on the quality of your answer. However, in principle – yes.

Q: I am thinking about doing a project in collaboration with Oticon (e.g. Bachelor’s thesis, Master’s thesis). What should I do next?

A: We are happy to hear it! Get in contact with us so we can help you out. The Audio Explorer’s trip to New York is a good opportunity to research and begin to scope your project. You will be able to ask our Engineers questions and learn more about the engineering work Oticon is devoted to. If you know you want to take advantage of this opportunity before leaving for New York, we recommend you to get in contact as soon as possible. The sooner we know, the better we can we help you out.

Q: What happens to the data we collect in New York?

A: The data will provide a foundation for our research and development engineers to work on.

Q: What if I would like to work with the data we collect in New York in a future project, such as a Bachelor’s or Master’s thesis?

A: We are very open for facilitating this opportunity. If you have any interest in such a collaboration, we recommend you let us know as soon as possible. Then we can help you create the best foundation for a project.

Q: How much of the trip’s cost will Oticon cover?

A: Included in the prize are plane tickets, hotel, breakfast, dinner, transport in New York, and all activities together with the Oticon.

Q: What should I expect to pay for myself?

A: An occasional lunch, snacks, drinks, and all leisure activities you want to do on your own time.

Q: Will I have any time on my own in New York?

A: Besides the activities we have planned, you are free to do what you want. However, we do expect you to participate in all the activities that we have planned. We also expect you to join in with some shared meals.

Q: Can I extend my stay in New York?

A: Yes! It is possible for up to 10 people to extend their stay in New York. It is possible to extend it for either one or two weeks (the departure time is the same).

Q: Do I need a visa for the United States?

A: Yes you do. It is your own responsibility to acquire a visa, and we recommend you do this as soon as possible, especially if you are a non-EU citizen.

Q: How about travel insurance?

A: Oticon’s travel insurance covers you from the moment we meet at the airport to the moment we separate after the trip.
